The epoxy resin coating is fusion bonded with the surface of the pipe. To make this process smooth, the pipes are first blast cleaned. They could be soda blasted or sand blasted. Other abrasive materials are also used in blast cleaning. The fbe external pipe coating is first applied with an epoxy resin layer by electrostatically registering the epoxy resin. Then a polyester layer is applied on top of the epoxy resin layer to protect the epoxy resin from peeling off from the pipe.

The type of epoxy resin and the polyester layer differ from one type of pipe to the other and for the different applications. The fbe external coating pipeline is costly for the first installment but it reduces replacements by avoiding corrosion and damage to the pipe.
